Shadow And Bone - Leigh Bardugo
Summary
The once-rich Ravka has been divided in two by the shady plains for decades; an inscrutable darkness, forgiven by monsters that live on human flesh. The fate of the country is uncertain.
Alina Starkov has never been good at anything. But when her regiment is attacked and her best friend is seriously injured, an unknown force wakes up at Alina to save his life. A force that can free the war-agitated kingdom once and for all. Alina has to leave everything behind and is taken to the court, where she will be trained as a member of the Grisha; the magical elite corps led by the mysterious Darkling.
Alina must learn to understand the secrets of the Grisha now that the future of Ravka is in her hands. In the threatening darkness, Alina not only learns to control her power, but she also gets to know a side of herself that she might have preferred never discovered.
Review
Shadow and bone is the first part of the Grisha trilogy by Leigh Bardugo. The world that Leigh Bardugo creates in this book is original, beautiful and very imaginative. In this world you follow Alina Starkov (from an-I perspective). At first Alina isn't good at anything, but slowly you see her grow in the book, which makes it nice for me to read it. Every character in this book is well-defined and each has its own story. I thought the book was very well written and it was fun to read, but I didn't like the end so much, it doesn't really invite me to read the next part as quickly as possible. But of course I will, I am happy that this story of Alina has not yet ended.
